Representatives from community and charity organisations attended a Lunch recently at the Commons Hotel to mark the retirement of Dr John Buckley as Bishop of Cork & Ross. The event had been organised by Gurranabraher Credit Union to celebrate Bishop Buckley’s 25 years as Bishop and his support of the Community since his installation as Bishop in 1998.

Commenting on the event Mr. Michael O Connell, Chair Gurranabraher Credit Union said “As a community organisation, we wanted to recognise the support that Bishop Buckley has given the Community over the years.  Indeed, Bishop Buckley has always been a regular attendee at Credit Union events, including the Over 60’s Dance in October to mark World Credit Union Day. We felt it only proper to show our appreciation and allow others to do the same before his well-earned retirement.”

Cork Credit Unions were well represented at the event with representatives from Glanmire, Blackpool, Farranree and Cathedral Credit Unions all in attendance to wish Bishop Buckley well in his retirement.
