Background
Gurranabraher Credit Union was founded in 1963 in the basement of the Church of the Ascension Gurranabraher. From small beginnings Gurranabraher Credit Union has grown to a current membership of 16,000 members.

Membership

Membership is available to people who live, work, or attend school in the common bond of the Credit Union. Gurranabraher Credit Union is community based which means if you live, work, attend school or do business in Gurranabraher, Hollyhill, Knocknaheeny, Shanakiel & Sundays Well area – you are eligible for membership.

Volunteering at the Credit Union

The Credit Union spirit of co-operation and community development is perhaps best demonstrated through the incredible contributions of thousands of volunteers at director, committee and local Credit Union level, who selflessly give their time and energy to the Credit Union movement. Gurranabraher Credit Union exists for the benefits of its members.

It is staffed by members for members. We rely a great deal on the services of our valued volunteers who commit tirelessly to the success and sustainability of our Credit Union. These volunteers sit on the various Committees and our Board of Directors, so they are fundamental to our past, present and future. An individual can develop both personally and professionally by volunteering. The benefits of Credit Union volunteering include:

• Gaining skills and experience with a professional financial service provider
• Education and training
• Personal development
• Meet new people from the community
• Work on developmental and business projects
• Give something back to the community

Finance, information technology, management and communications skills are particularly welcome. However, any ability to make a contribution is appreciated. There are policies and training in place to support volunteers in their roles. In addition to the induction training programme for all new volunteers, ongoing training is available and people are encouraged to develop various skills. Credit Union committees offer an excellent starting point for new volunteers. These committees provide experience, learning and an active role within the credit union. Once a volunteer has served the Credit Union at committee level for a period of time, and training needs have been identified and addressed, you can move into a director or supervisor position.

The Credit Union reserves the right to refuse a person as a volunteer and where appropriate will give a reason for that refusal as Gurranabraher Credit Union is bound by the standards of Fitness & Probity, issued by the Central Bank of Ireland.

How to request sponsorship

• Complete our online application or download an application form and submit completed form
• The Community Development Committee will review your application
• A decision will be communicated to your group
• Payment will be made by EFT to either your Credit Union Account or financial institution of your choice (BIC & IBAN required)

Please note only completed sponsorship requests form active Credit Union Members will be considered. Sponsorship request packages may be submitted in person at any of our branches, via our online application process or to info@gcul.ie, or via mail to:
